In this video, to pay homage to the city of Sabadell, Spain and the 130th anniversary of Banco Sabadell, over 100 people from Vallès Symphony Orchestra, Choral Lieder, Friends of l’Opera and the Choral Belles Arts, perform the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (Ode to Joy) in a flash mob.
It begins with a “human statue” holding a cello that comes to life when a girl puts a coin in a hat and he begins playing Ode to Joy. Gradually two violas, a bassoon, and various stringed instruments are added. Soon members of the chorus join in the action. The result is a magical live street performance of one of the most uplifting songs ever written.
